Donald Swift, a long-time resident of Bend, Oregon was born on October 6, 1945, in Los Angeles CA, and passed away after a long battle of illness at St. Charles Medical Center at the age of 73 on April 4, 2019. He is survived by his devoted wife of 51 years, Joan and his daughter, Kimberley Saville of Overland Park, KS. Donald touched and made an impact on so many lives in his 50 years of service in law enforcement in various capacities. He was a retired Lieutenant from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department after 28 years of service. Upon his family’s move to Bend, Oregon Don developed, implemented and ran the Central Oregon Law Enforcement Reserve Academy in Redmond for 20 years.

Don was a Captain in the Redmond Police Reserve Officer Program and retired from service in 2018. Don was always devoted and passionate about his law enforcement work. He remained involved in individual expert witness casework and non-lethal weapons training through pepper ball technologies during his years of retirement. His passion for his work was always fueled by the goal of saving Officers lives in the field.

Donald will be missed by so many. His memory and his passion for law enforcement and his devotion to others will continue to be carried on by those that he touched and positively impacted in life.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Central Oregon Public Safety Chaplaincy in Don’s name are appreciated.
